Not only is their gear oil gasket maker too thick to build a good bead with, but it is also too thick for their packaging. I hope that everyone involved in this product’s creation has a shitty day, along with the asshole who laid down the factory sealant on my Jeep’s rear axle.

Had the same thing happen to me... multiple times.
Also the caps are made of the most brittle plastic.
The caulk tubes are good, but way too much for one job.

When I used Permatex tubes at work I’d cut the hole a little bigger, and at an angle. Also would push the stuff out by rolling the tube. I too have had a tube blow up and was “schooled” in the tube-ways by an older mechanic.

Psssssst roll up the tube from the bottom, don’t just mash it like a fresh tube of toothpaste
I’ve always wanted to try the kind that comes in a cheese-whiz can. Seems super handy.

That’s the route I took on my second go. I’ve sealed up quite a few moto and Subaru cases using Threebond and Hondabond. Much easier to bead.

Do not confuse this product with a tube of KY jelly. The two products are not interchangeable.

I needed some similar sealer for the splines on my rear end and was between that and Toyota’s seal packing which is basically an even stiffer version. The tube comes with a key so you can roll it up without it popping.

You know what I hate about Permatex? The packaging for their red threadlocker. See also: Loctite’s blue threadlocker...

Also the caps are made of the most brittle pla stic.
They sure are. Besides, a s infrequently as I find myself using RTV, I almost always have to pick out a bit of cured product and get it flowing again. So I’ve pretty much given up on the caps altogether, squeezing out a sacrificial bit of RTV to dry. It acts as its own self-sealing cap and gives me something t o grab on to next time I go to pull out a dried chunk .

Hit it with a heat gun, hair dryer, or halogen task light to thin it out. Old insulators trick. Especially helpful in winter.
